Uniform and Dress Code

All uniform clothing items must be purchased through Dennis Uniforms store, www.dennisuniforms.com. For store hours please see website or travel to their location at 3560 South Main Street in Salt Lake City, 801-287-9200.

Parents are responsible to see that their children are dressed appropriately. All clothing will be clean and in good repair. Exceptions to the uniform must have the Administration’s approval. If a child is out of uniform, a written excuse from the parent is required. The Teachers and Administration will enforce the dress code, issuing an Out of Uniform Notice if necessary. If a student receives 2 notices in one month, they will be excluded from the Earned Non-Uniform Day.

The Administration will determine if a student’s appearance is appropriate for Blessed Sacrament Catholic School. This includes, but is not limited to, the following:

3 YEAR OLD PRESCHOOL

T-shirts with the Blessed Sacrament Logo are required. These are ordered by their teacher at a small cost.

GIRLS

Formal Dress: Mass and designated field trip days
PK-8th Grade:

  • Plaid jumper with Peter Pan collared shirt
  • Navy Skort/Pants with oxford shirt / Peter Pan collared shirt and vest or cardigan OR with polo shirt and vest or cardigan
  • Plaid Skirt with oxford shirt and vest or cardigan
  • No polo or oxford shirts with the jumper
  • Ash colored polo, Middle School Only

Non-Formal Dress
PK-8th Grade

  • Jumper with Peter Pan collared shirt
  • Navy Skort with red, white or blue polo, oxford or Peter Pan collared shirt
  • Navy Shorts (1st & 4th quarter) with above shirts

ALL STUDENTS

  • Belts are required for grades 1st-8th and may be the following colors: plain black, brown or navy.
  • All students may wear blue or red zip-up sweatshirts with the Blessed Sacrament logo. These do not take the place of a vest or cardigan on Formal Dress days.
  • Girls may wear solid colored (no logos) knee, crew, ankle socks that cover the ankle or tights in: red, white, navy blue and black. No nylons or leggings.
  • Boys may wear solid colored crew or ankle socks that cover the ankle in: red, white, navy blue or black. No logos.

SHOES

PK-8th Grade

  • Dress or athletic shoes with a non-marking sole must be worn and securely laced.
  • Acceptable shoe colors include: red, white, navy, black, brown and gray.
  • Any brand markings/shoe laces MUST be in above listed acceptable colors.
  • Athletic shoes are required for P.E. in the acceptable shoe colors are red, white, navy, black, brown or gray.
  • Extreme fads are not acceptable. No neon, glitter, lights, cartoon characters, or shoes with wheels. Mules, clogs, sandals, “booties” and open toe shoes are not allowed.
  • Height of the heel for grades PreK – 5 may not exceed one inch.
  • Height of heel for Middle school may not exceed two inches.
  • During winter months, boots may be worn outside, but please switch back into shoes while in the building.

As a parent, if you have any questions please see your teacher before your child wears the shoe so that it may be returned to the store if necessary.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Girls may wear navy or black bike shorts (for modesty,) under skirts and jumpers as long as they are not visible.
  • Shirts must be tucked in at all times.
  • Shirts must be worn under sweatshirts, and the collar must be worn on the outside.
  • No hats may be worn inside the school.
  • No outside clothing (coats, sweatshirts that are not Blessed Sacrament logo wear etc.) may be worn in the classroom.
  • Clothing must fit the child. No oversized clothing may be worn.
  • Length of skirts, skorts, and shorts must not be more than 2” above the knee, worn at the waistline, and not rolled at the waist.
  • No low-rise or hip-hugger styles are allowed.

Jewelry

  • Girls may wear small post earrings. Boys may not wear earrings.
  • No other jewelry (rings, necklaces, etc.) except watches and religious symbols may be worn.
  • Medical jewelry is acceptable for those who must wear it.
  • Middle School students only, may wear simple jewelry of a non-religious nature.

Make-Up

  • No make-up is allowed in PreK through 5th grade. Light make-up is allowed for 6th – 8th grade girls.
  • PK through 5th girls may wear clear nail polish only.
  • Middle School girls (6th through 8th) grade may wear any color nail polish and nails must be kept to a modest length.

The Administration reserves the right to determine if any make-up/polish or hairstyle is appropriate.

Hair

  • Hair must be clean and neat, with no “extreme” styles. i.e.: designs shaved in head.
  • Hair must be the students’ natural hair color only. No highlighted or altering treatment is allowed. Students will not be permitted back in to school until the hair is dyed back to the natural color. Boy’s hair must be kept above the eyebrows, ear and collar.
  • Hair length may be to mid-ear.
  • Girl’s hair accessories must be simple and non-distracting in the school colors.

Hats

  • Due to cool temperatures, students may wear winter hats during recess and PE, but they must be removed before entering the classroom. No hats may be worn inside the building and must be removed upon reentry.
  • In order to protect from the sun rays, students may wear a ball cap or sun hat at any time during the year for recess and PE classes. The hat must be removed before entering the classroom.

NON-UNIFORM DRESS DAY

About once a month, students may earn a “Non-Uniform Dress Day”, usually the last Friday of the month. Non-Uniform Dress Day is earned each month by following the dress code. A student may receive one out of uniform notice in the month. A second notice will disqualify the student for Non Uniform Dress Day that month.

  • All clothing must be clean and in good condition.
  • Tops must have sleeves and go below the waist. No low “scoop-neck” shirts, tight shirts, or belly shirts may be worn.
  • Shorts must follow the length policy of the official uniform and worn only in Q1 and Q4.
  • No offensive language on clothing is allowed, including alcohol and tobacco graphics.
  • Regular hair, make-up and jewelry policies apply for Non Uniform Dress Day.
  • No colors, styles, or suggestions of gang-related clothing may be worn.
  • No oversized clothing may be worn.
  • Pants must be worn at the waistline. If leggings are worn, tunic shirt must come down to mid – thigh level.
  • No flip flops or sandals for safety reasons.
  • Tights are not pants.
  • No costumes.

P.E. CLOTHING

PreK – 8th

  • All students must wear non-marking athletic shoes.

Grades 5th-8th

  • Grades 5th-8th change clothes for their P.E. class. The Blessed Sacrament Catholic School official gym uniform must be worn.
  • Students will lose academic points for failure to wear P.E. clothing during their assigned P.E. classes.
  • No Blessed Sacrament Catholic School “team shirts” are allowed. Red or blue zippered Blessed Sacrament Catholic School hoodie may also be worn with the gym uniform.

WINTER

Children are to be prepared for winter outdoor play. Boots, hats, coats, and gloves are a must. Ski pants are required to play in the snow. Students play outside, weather permitting. Students are not permitted to stay inside for recess due to illness or lack of proper winter clothing. Grades 6-8 are not allowed on the snow without proper footwear, and must have a winter coat suitable for outdoor play.
