Volunteer Description and Guidelines

Attend community events:  Yes, earn volunteer hours supporting your children and attend any or all of our many community events. Barnes and Noble Art Exhibits, Chik-fil-A Dinner nights, Parents and Pastries, Spaghetti Dinner, Mother and Son/Father and Daughter Socials, Parent to Parent Nights, and the St Patrick’s Day Parade.

Back to School Bagels and Coffee: Set up, serve, clean up, and have fun.  Bagels and Coffee is a great way to jump into the school year.

Book Fair: Assist the HSA Chair in coordinating book fairs.   Most of the work is focused on promoting the event, setting up, and selling books.  Funds raised go to the school library.

Effortless Fundraising:  Promote and collect items for our “effortless” fundraising (e.g. Box Tops, Smiths Card).  We are always looking for fresh ideas for this.  The money helps pay for HSA events.

Fall Fundraiser:  Work with Fall Fundraising Chair to research, develop and oversee our school-wide Fall Fundraiser. Our Fall Fundraiser is our second largest fundraiser and is vital the success of our school.

Field Day:  Field Day is held on the second to last day of the school year. It is a half day full of fun event for PreK-3 through 5th graders. Volunteers are  needed throughout the day for the following events: Chaperone each class through out the day, overseeing Field Day activities, help with lunch and yearbooks activities.  Field Day volunteers can be parents, family friends, or any teenager over 16 years old. Come help send the kids off to summer with fun filled activities.

Gala Springfest: There are many ways to help the annual Gala team! Please volunteer in any area you feel comfortable. Gala Committee is a great way to get to know Blessed Sacrament parents, have fun, and make a big impact on the success of our school.  Gala opportunities include:  data entry, office help, website support, sponsorships, table sales, decorations, signage and graphic design, party boards, class projects, class pillows, teacher experiences, gala video, procurement of Silent and Live Auction items, bundling items, program ads, syndicate ticket sales, and night of volunteers.

Grandparents’ and Grand-friends’ Day: Work with the Advancement Department organizing volunteers, communications and RSVP information, set up and clean up, greet Grandfriends.

Green Team: Support our “green” programs by becoming involved in our School Garden and participate in our efforts to Reduce, Reuse and Recycle.  Ideas welcome!

Halloween Trunk or Treat:  This event is the Friday before Halloween.  Students and children from the community will trick or treat in the parking lot of the school.  Volunteers will need to coordinate with the parish for details.

Hot Chocolate and Sledding Day:  This is a new community building event sponsored by our HSA. Our plan is to host a Saturday sledding and hot chocolate event at a local park near the school. Volunteer activities include: Coordinating a date, creating a flier, communicating with other volunteers, and keeping hot chocolate warm and ready to serve.

Lunchroom and Playground Duty (Required):  Each family with children in grades Kindergarten through 8th Grade is required to provide four volunteer hours spit into two hours of lunchroom and two hours of lunchtime recess duty.  Each grade is assigned a month to provide coverage. Room Representatives will coordinate their class-month schedule with the parents.

Families with multiple children can choose which month to cover. We understand scheduling can sometime be difficult, if your assigned month does not work for you please communicate with your Room Parent and arrange to help when you are able. Mentor Families: Working with the Admissions Department,  this committee provides resources, answers questions, and lends support to new families. Our mission is to welcome new families and foster community among all Blessed Sacrament Catholic School Families.

Mother and Son/ Father and Daughter Socials:  Each event will take place once a year during the school year. Events change yearly, past events include Mother and Son Bowling, Father and Daughter Dance. We welcome your ideas.

Parent Socials: Get to know other parents in the BSCS community by organizing  and attending a parent social! Socials will be held several times throughout the year; location and activities vary for each event. Be creative and let’s have some fun.

Room Parent: Work with your child’s teacher and the Room Parent Coordinator planning class parties, helping coordinate volunteers for your month of lunch and recess duty, ensure class emergency kits are up-to-date, and help with Field Day.

St. Patrick’s Day Parade:  The coordinator of the event will enter our parade participation entry with the Hibernian Society of Utah at www.irishinutah.org. This event is the Saturday before St. Patrick’s Day. The parade is at The Gateway Center, 400 West 200 North, in downtown Salt Lake City from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM.  The volunteer coordinator of this event is in charge of gathering volunteers to help create a budget that can oversee making a float for the parade and  by using existing decorations from previous years. All expenses can be reimbursed with approved receipts.

Spaghetti Dinner: Help kick off Catholic Schools week with this much anticipated school and parish event.  Help is needed in planning, set-up, kitchen help, serving, and clean-up. This event is always held the last Friday in January. Mange! Mange!

Teacher and Staff Appreciation:  Work with Room Parent Coordinator to plan events celebrating and recognizing our teachers and staff throughout the school year.  This committee does not meet often. The work is clearly defined and can usually be organized by e-mail and phone calls.
