A National School of Character 

Blessed Sacrament Catholic School is recognized as a National School of Character by the Character Education Partnership, CEP.

In 2008, we challenged ourselves to complete the rigorous process required to become a school recognized for character education initiative. Following submission of a detailed evidence-based portfolio, a thorough evaluation of our integrated character education initiative, and its impact on our overall academic outcomes, student behavior and school climate, CEP recognized Blessed Sacrament Catholic School as a National School of Character.

We are the only Catholic school in Utah to hold this distinguished honor.

We continue to focus on integrating faith, academics and character across the curriculum. Continuing our commitment to character education, each year the Character Education Committee develops a Social Justice theme for the year. Students, staff, and school community engage in monthly discussions and activities centered around the theme.

Each year, the Character Education Committee submits a project to the National Promising Practices program at CEP. The National Promising Practice program highlights what’s going well in classrooms across America and the world. Locally, the program provides educators, parents, and community leaders an opportunity to see how initiatives can lead to a big difference in school climate and student development.

The program is simple in scope and recognizes many wonderful ideas from passionate individuals who are making a real difference in the lives of their students. The Promising Practice that is submitted must be in keeping with the 11 Principles of CEP.

Hundreds of educators take simple, intentional steps to impact the ethical growth of their students every year, despite shrinking budgets and other competing challenges. Blessed Sacrament Catholic School has been awarded TEN National Promising Practice awards.

Our mission to help our students develop within society as young people of good character is a goal shared with the national Character Education Partnership. To reach this goal we have set these tasks before ourselves: 

  1. Teach all students, youngest to oldest, what constitutes and defines good character. 
  2. Instill the value and importance of developing good character. 
  3. Aid the Development of good character traits. 
  4. Reinforce the qualities of good character. 
  5. Engage the entire community in the pursuit of Character Education. 

The process of formalizing character education at Blessed Sacrament requires collaboration with students, parents, and the entire staff. As a school, we have always stressed the importance of service to others. In the continued pursuit of service as an example of Christ in the world, faculty and staff recognized the great opportunity present within the Character Education program.  

The Character education initiative at Blessed Sacrament Catholic School is applied at all levels and for all ages. Every grade participates, from the age of three through to our oldest students in Grade 8. With each passing year we build upon the passion and achievements of our students’ personal development. This also serves to provide more precise targets for our future goals and development as a community. 

“Faith. Academics. Character.” Terms we emphasize in our declaration of who we are as a school. We are firm believers that all three traits must exist in our curriculum and community. We are proud to send our graduates into the world and to their future, confident that they have the character to live successful and rewarding lives that are also good.
