Hello Third Grade!

In Third Grade students make a leap into independent work and experience a shift from learning to read into reading to learn. Creativity and critical thinking are important aspects of the curriculum especially when it comes to large-scale projects and essays. Mrs. Franco aims to create a calm and comforting environment where students can feel relaxed and focused. Many new concepts are introduced this year including:

  • Cursive handwriting
  • Division and multiplication
  • Utah’s state history
  • Grammar skills such as diagramming sentences
  • Dictionary and thesaurus skills to enhance vocabulary

For the state report, each third grader learns about a state of their choosing. They each spend several days researching facts about their state using multiple sources including books, encyclopedias, and the internet. Once the research portion is complete, each student writes a report and draws a detailed map of their state along with various symbols. The final report includes a title page, table of contents, a bibliography, and is handwritten in their best cursive.

No family is asked to pay more than they can afford.

Mrs. Melodie Franco

Mrs. Franco has been a dedicated teacher at Blessed Sacrament Catholic School for more than 20 years. Inspired by her dream of becoming a teacher since second grade, she considers it a true blessing to share her passion for learning with her students every day. Even after two decades in the classroom, she continues to find joy in helping children grow and succeed.

She earned her degree in Elementary Education from the University of Utah and is also a proud graduate of Judge Memorial Catholic High School, where her youngest daughter is now a freshman. Mrs. Franco especially enjoys teaching cursive writing and grammar, believing that strong communication skills and good organizational habits provide students with a solid foundation for lifelong success.

Mrs. Franco is committed to fostering a love of learning while helping students build confidence, responsibility, and the skills they need both inside and outside the classroom. She believes every child has the potential to achieve great things when they are encouraged, challenged, and supported.

Outside of school, Mrs. Franco enjoys practicing Pilates, reading, and spending quality time with her family. She and her husband are the proud parents of four children, all of whom attended Blessed Sacrament Catholic School. Having experienced the school as both a teacher and a parent, she feels especially grateful to be part of such a caring and faith-filled community.

One of Mrs. Franco’s favorite quotes is,

“They may forget what you said, but they will never forget how you made them feel.”

This philosophy guides her teaching each day. She strives to create a classroom where every student feels valued, respected, and loved while being inspired to work hard, take pride in their accomplishments, and reach their fullest potential. Mrs. Franco maintains high expectations because she believes in her students’ abilities and is dedicated to helping each child grow academically, spiritually, and personally.
