Hello Friends!

First Grade is one of student’s most formative grades not only in learning but also in personality and behavioral development. Mrs. Crossman has a passion for teaching children of this age and she has over 30 years of experience. Her structured curriculum gives little learners the opportunity to learn how to rule follow, stay on task, and build a routine. Children of this age thrive with a consistency, allowing them to feel relaxed and ready for what each day holds. Students experience a spike in knowledge in this year especially in their reading, writing, spelling, mathematics, and critical thinking skills. Some curriculum highlights include:

  • How to create a writing piece using a topic sentence, supporting details, and a conclusion, through various genres of writing such as personal narratives and descriptive writing.
  • Various strategies for adding and subtracting single and double digit numbers.
  • How to break down story problems to be able to problem solve using a variety of skills.
  • Understanding grammar rules to help develop skills as a reader and a writer.
  • Learning to read analog and digital clocks.

Your Ticket to First Grade Fun!

An activity unique to First Grade is Reading Ticket, a binder-based activity, that allows children to learn to work independently, organize tasks, and complete work within a time frame. Students are assigned different tasks each day such as: ABC order, listening to stories, math puzzles called Thinkers, and working on their poem books. These independent tasks allow for an individualized learning experience so that Mrs. Crossman can work one on one with students, have book clubs with small groups, and ultimately develop reading and writing skills that instill a sense of self confidence.

No family is asked to pay more than they can afford.
