Mrs. Deborah Shinkaruk-Hobbs
My name is Deborah Shinkaruk-Hobbs and I am proud to be part of the Blessed Sacrament community. I am very excited for this upcoming school year as we forge ahead during interesting and challenging times.
I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre and Psychology and a B.Ed. in Drama and Special Education from the University of Alberta, Canada. I also studied Film and Documentary Making at Winchester College in the United Kingdom.
As an educator of 21 years, I have taught the subjects of Drama, Religion, Social Studies, Art, and also CALM (Career and Life Management) for Edmonton Catholic School District. While I was at Archbishop Oscar Romero Catholic High School, I was the Department Head for Religious Studies and Social Justice, Fine Arts, World Languages, Foods and Industrial Arts and Technology. I taught theatre classes and directed children and adults in a professional community theatre as well as city summer theatre camps.
I thrive on creativity, the love of learning, and the passion of performance, which is often the backbone of many lessons in life and in the classroom. I enjoy every aspect of teaching and have come to know that students teach us even as we teach them. Hence, this is one of my favorite things about teaching.
I have been blessed more in life than I deserve. I have a loving family, good health, spiritual relationship with God, and a great opportunity to teach.
“Education is the passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to those who prepare for it today.” – Malcolm X
