Archaeology Club – “The Shovel Bums”

Students attending 5th grade through 8th grade are invited to attend Mr. McHugh’s Archaeology Club. The club meets weekly after school. Once a month students travel into the field to take part in hands-on archaeological activities and museum studies under the tutelage of a professional archaeologist or curator. Field trip activities include surveying archaeological sites, screening for artifacts, inventorying and cleaning artifacts for museum storage.

Topics covered at club meetings include Utah history and prehistory as well as aspects of archaeology relating to the Bible. Basic concepts and jargon of archaeology are studied and used. Students will learn how an object makes its way from excavation to display at a museum.

Art Club

*Offered in the Spring Semester*

Art Club is an opportunity to work on school projects that cannot be explored during regular art classes, experimenting with a wide range of techniques and materials. Students in Pre-K through 4th grade are invited to join. Art Club is a fun way for your student to explore his or her creativity through additional art experiences outside of the weekly classroom curriculum. Participants are involved in a variety of art activities utilizing various materials. Students work on permanent collaborative art pieces as a gift to the school. Students also work on projects needed for school events.  Art Club allows children to take their art to a higher level, develop new friendships, build self-confidence, and be a part of a community.

Kyu-Shin-Ryu Karate offers classes to students ages five years and older. Strength, agility, coordination, aerobic health, confidence, honor, self-worth, personal empowerment, new friendships, fun, and mental focus are just some of the many benefits gained through participation in this traditional Japanese study form. Blessed Sacrament is very fortunate to have a partnership with Kyu Shin Ryu Karate as on-campus instructors, greatly lowering the cost of training and offering convenience to families.

Ski & Snowboarding

The Blessed Sacrament Ski & Snowboard program is available to students in grades 2nd through 8th grade. Skill levels include first timers through expert level. Students are paired with ski instructors based on their skill level, with groups of about 5 students per instructor. The children benefit and grow through being able to ski every week for several weeks, always with an instructor to guide them. As with all extracurricular activities at Blessed Sacrament, the goal is to have fun, learn or increase the student’s skills, and build relationships with school mates. We do this in our fabulous Wasatch mountain range enjoying “The Greatest Snow on Earth.”

Student Council

The purpose of Blessed Sacrament Student Council is to provide student leadership opportunities to the 6th, 7th, and 8th-grade students. These students are voted on by their peers and provide the students at Blessed Sacrament the finest representation in their student body.

Blessed Sacrament Student Council members are not only leaders of the school, but of the community as well. Throughout the years, the student council members have organized and participated in many community service projects such as a canned food drive, collecting Christmas presents for homeless families for Candy Cane corner, collecting cards for veterans, creating and delivering Thanksgiving placemats for senior centers, and making “survival kits” for local firefighters. They also work with the Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten students every morning and afternoon by assisting these students in and out of their cars to ensure their safety.

Being on Student Council at Blessed Sacrament School is a fun way for Middle School students to practice their leadership skills for their futures while learning the importance of serving their community.
