Reading
Students expand their knowledge of research, comprehension, vocabulary, and fluency skills through weekly class group work and one-on-one sessions with the teacher. Students participate in interactive, hands-on tasks to practice the skills taught, such as literature circles and author studies.
Quarterly, students are required to read 600 pages and present a book report to the class. Assigned reading format varies and students learn to read a wide variety of publications, including comic books and news articles. Weekly, the teacher assigns spelling words from the reading series, which students are expected to practice using Spelling Contracts.
Long term assignments including making book reports into a comic books, pizza box, posters.
